PLUNGER s/t LP (1997 Emotional Hardcore!)

Self titled album from the late 1990s hardcore band, PLUNGER!  I honestly don't even remember this band.  Stumbled across this record on YouTube and I definitely had to share it.  Sounds like a cross between STILL LIFE & RITES OF SPRING with a dash of EMBRACE!!  That's a good thing!

Rights of the Accused "Innocence" [Great Chicago Punk Band!] 'ROTA'

Great song from an underrated hardcorepunk band from Chicago. I first heard this song on the radio show, "All Out Attack" or just "The Attack" for short. It was hosted (and maybe founded?) by a guy named 'Bill Bored' on WCBN 88.3 FM, Ann Arbor, MI. This is the University of Michigan's radio station. The show aired on Friday nights from 10 - 11 pm, if I recall correctly. We used to tape the show every week. It was the only way we had to hear about new hardcorepunk music back then. I still have a few of the tapes from 1986 - 1989. Cool stuff! Bring back the 80's!!

ALL "Guilty" Song from the album "Breaking Things".....Incredible Lyrics!!

"I know I suck already
You don't even have to tell me
I'm guilty
I feel guilty all the time

I did everything you thought
I only stopped 'cause I got caught
And I'm guilty
I feel guilty all the time

She's leavin today, there's no other way
No need for me to say what was on my mind
Everything I've done has been a waste of our time
I'm just guilty
I'm guilty

Your going to leave me when you hear this song
I've been lying to you all along
And I'm guilty
I feel guilty all the time

You're innocent and I'm in shame
I don't even remember their names
And I'm guilty
I feel guilty all the time

She's leaving today, there's no other way
To keep her from crying all the time
All the lies are what made it a crime
I'm just guilty
I'm guilty

What's done is done
I don't want to defend myself
This time it's all my fault
You say you've lost all respect
'Cause I've gone against everything I've said

I'll probably end up dead and alone
Drove away the coolest girl I've known
And I'm guilty
I feel guilty all the time

She's leaving today, there's no other way
No need for me to say what was on my mind
Everything I've done has been a waste of our time
I'm just guilty
I'm guilty"

Watched That Awesome "This is CLASH TV" DVD--

"This is CLASH TV" is one of the BEST put together bootleg DVD's ever made about The CLASH!!  Chock full of live CLASH footage from all era's of the time together, including: Interviews from UK television shows, segments of classic concerts, and the great interview on the Tom Snyder Show in 1981!!  Tons more stuff on there!  Picked it up a few years ago, or given to me as a gift, can't quite remember.  Oh yeah, it's got their performance from Saturday Night Live in 1982!!  Hot damn this thing is rad!!
In other news: I got the job I interviewed for today!  Yay for me!  I'm so stoked to be working at Zingerman's Bakehouse for the holiday season!!  And who knows, it may turn into a permanent full-time gig.  I didn't know it at the time, but today was the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, whose name I took at my Confirmation into the Catholic Church!!  Thank you for your help, St. Francis.
God is good! ♥♥♥

"N.Y.H.C. Documentary" A Firm Classic in My Book!--

I love this movie! That kid from DISTRICT 9 is hilarious! It's either all the weed he smokes, or the angel dust he says he tried a few days ago, that's melting his mind! Anyhow, this is a classic. Right below "Another State of Mind" & "Suburbia" but not quite side-by-side with those two CLASSIC classics. You know what I mean. m//r

Hardcore: Love It Or Leave It--

Great quote here.  Stolen from the Radio Silence site--
______________________________________
In the late 1960s, two bands hailing from Michigan laid the groundwork for punk. The Motor City Five and The Stooges aren’t the center ring on punk’s tree, but they stand as the most recognizable starting point. Both bands’ revved-up version of the blues garnered attention, major label deals, and devout fans, but the landscape wasn’t yet ripe for a revolution. Ultimately, a shitload of heroin and the typical cast of clueless suits caused both bands to end prematurely.
And while wearing swastikas for shock value, disrespecting the Royal Family, and displaying a disdain for anything considered “normal” was punk’s calling card, its roots remained firmly in the streets of New York, the art scene of Los Angeles, and London fashion; places totally foreign to kids in suburban America. As romantic as it was to be a starving artist living like shit in New York City most kids just fucking hated their parents and liked to light fires in the woods.
As punk migrated to the suburbs the sound and attitude changed. Something snapped in American culture; kids who loved the speed and fuck you attitude of punk took hold of its spirit, got rid of the “live fast, die young” bullshit and made a revision: hardcore. It wasn’t a direct fuck you to punk’s aesthetic and sound, hardcore was moving too fast to give a shit. With an actor elected as President and a defense initiative named after Star Wars, the decade was as dire as it was absurd. Cocaine was huge, AIDS surfaced as global epidemic, and the suburbs were really fucking boring. Hardcore’s direct and naïve stood out as the most honest commentary put to music at the time.

EMBASSY self-titled LP (More Excellent 90's Hardcore!)

Like the DOWNCAST records I also posted, this is 90's emotional hardcore (aka "emo") at it's finest! So much was great about that era of music & camaraderie in punk. I can't even adequately explain it most of the time. It's just a feeling that I'll always have with me. Now THAT sounds emo! m//r

" Arkangel " Animal Liberation Fanzine available for download

I found this neat little site that has many old fanzines available for download,
including "Arkangel."  This is cool because I just recently dug out an old issue
of this fantastic militant animal liberation fanzine/magazine from my storage
unit in the basement of my mother's apartment.  Surfing around the web, looking
for Pro-Life vegan websites (I simply cannot understand how one can be vegan
but NOT be anti-abortion?!?  WTF?!?  How does that work?
Anyhow, happy to learn that there are a significant number of Pro-Life & anti
abortion vegans out there, and they are VERY vocal about it!  OK, in the spirit
of full disclosure, I will say that I am NOT vegan anymore.  And I haven't been
for a long, long time.  I was vegan in the mid 90's but stopped for a couple of years
due to circumstances out of my control.  In 1998 I went vegan again, and sold out
in 2007 or so.  It is something that was very important to me at one time though
it no longer is the most important thing to me.  I am VERY anti-abortion though.
And I know that one day soon I will have an easier time with life & thus I will
be able to follow a vegan lifestyle at that time.
Check out this site and download some 'zines!!!

(Edit Aug 10, 2013 --this link seems to be dead.  I will try to find another source for this great fanzine.)

"Roots Radicals "// "King of the Jungle"// "In The City" Tim Timebomb & Friends --

Pretty cool cover of RANCID's "Roots Radicals" done by Tim Armstrong under the moniker 'Tim Timebomb & Friends'. Is it a "cover song" if you wrote the song to begin with? TA & Friends is, of course, Tim Armstrong aka "Lint" from RANCID, TRANSPLANTS, and OPERATION IVY. This is very cool. This project he's doing has released 80 songs so far! Lots & lots of well done cover songs as well as RANCID songs and some originals. Usually acoustic guitar & piano and also some non-acoustic songs. My favorites so far are "King of the Jungle" by LAST RESORT & "In the City" by The JAM!  I edited this post & put them up after this one.  Damn, there are so many great cover (and originals!) that I could post all 80 or so up here. Just check these ones out then go to YT and listen to them all.  RANCID is playing here in Detroit in less than two weeks. I was originally supposed to go with my friend Ann--an old girlfriend--but I have a feeling that we aren't going together. And to be quite honest I can't really afford the $25+ it will cost. Nothing bad happened between her & I, and we are still friends. I'm just not feeling the whole 'go to a concert and night out on the town' thingy with her. I need to keep some distance because I truthfully have more important things going on in my life at this juncture.

May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you always.--
And hell, may the force be with you too.--

Watch each others backs.
Not WASH each others backs, WATCH each others backs.--

Make room for the next guy.--

Give 'em enough rope.--

Hang on & never let go.--

Never let the bastards grind you down.
With love, m//r ♥

Here's their (his, really) cover of LAST RESORT's "King of the Jungle"

And here is their competent cover of "In The City" originally done by Paul Weller & The JAM!

OFF! Full Set From 924 Gilman St! April 2011--

Here's an awesome set from OFF! The new(ish) band fronted by Kieth Morris. Of CIRCLE JERKS & BLACK FLAG fame, duh! Also on the drums is that dude Mario who was in 411 with Dan O'Mahoney, as well as drumming for CLIKITAT IKATOWI. (I think I butchered that band's name! Sorry!) This is a show from April of 2011 at the legendary hardcorepunk club, 924 Gilman St. Ostensibly where GREEN DAY got their start. But I'm drawing a blank....was that club in SF or Oakland? I can't believe I don't remember where the damn club was!!! I read the entire "924 Gilman St." book in one week, several years back while I was in hospital! Well anyhow, check out this sweet video. Damn, Keith's voice! Such a classic hardcorepunk sound. But shit man, cut those fucking dreadlocks! Looks nasty with all the bald spots! ♥Use. Love. All. The. Time♥

AVENGERS " Corpus Christi " [Live Video]

One of my favorite American punk rock bands ever, AVENGERS!!! And this is one of their best songs from their debut s/t album.
